02/25/2009 - Clemson, SC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Malcolm Delaney scored a game-high 26 points, as Virginia Tech made seven second-half three-pointers en route to a 80-77 victory over 12th-ranked Clemson at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Delaney added six assists for the Hokies (17-10, 7-6 ACC), who avenged a 86-82 loss on the road back on January 29 to the Tigers. A.D. Vassallo ended with 21 points and five rebounds. Hank Thorns tallied 10 points in the win.

Terrence Oglesby scored 22 points including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc to pace the Tigers (22-5, 8-5), who were looking to clinch their second straight winning season in the ACC. Trevor Booker finished with 21 points and 13 boards. Demontez Stitt had 14 points and five helpers, while K.C. Rivers ended with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Trailing 77-72, Oglesby drilled a three-pointer from the top of the arc to cut the gap to two with just over three minutes left. Vassallo hit 1-of-2 from the charity stripe with 1 1/2 minutes remaining to put the visiting team up 78-75.

With less than 30 ticks to play, Delaney missed a short jumper inside the paint. Jeff Allen got the rebound for the Hokies, but couldn't make a layup. Rivers took the rebound and hit a streaking Booker at halfcourt. Booker converted on an easy breakaway layup with 20.5 left to cut the gap to one, 78-77.

Stitt fouled Vassallo on the ensuing Virginia Tech possession with 12.5 seconds to go. Vassallo hit both shots from the line to extend the margin to three. Oglesby took the inbound pass and quickly made his way past midcourt. He dribbled to the left and hit Stitt with a pass. But Stitt was forced to throw up an unsuccessful prayer under heavy pressure from the Virginia Tech defense.

Trailing 5-2 early in the contest, the Tigers used a 12-2 run to take a 14-7 lead with about 16 minutes to go. Rivers tallied five points during the spurt, which was capped off by a Booker layup.

After both teams traded buckets, the Hokies ripped off nine straight points to go ahead by two, 18-16. Vassallo's jumper topped off the run with just under 11 1/2 minutes left. But Clemson scored six unanswered points a few minutes later to take a 25-20 advantage.

The Tigers held onto a slim margin for the remainder of the half, and took a 38-35 edge into the locker room. Booker tallied 15 points and grabbed six rebounds after the initial 20 minutes of play.

During the first 5:30 of the second half, Virginia Tech hit five three- pointers. Vassallo accounted for three of the long-range shots, while Delaney had the other two.

Ahead 63-61, Virginia Tech rallied off five consecutive points to extend their lead to seven, 68-61. Delaney finished the spurt with a three-point play and two shots from the line with under 9 1/2 minutes remaining.

Clemson fired right back with seven straight points from Oglesby, who culminated the run with two three-pointers to the tie the game with about seven minutes to go.

LaDainian Tomlinson Favorite to be 2007 NFL MVP

With the first NFL preseason game less than two weeks away, it is time to start thinking about football once again at MySportsbook.com. Reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson is currently the 5-1 co-favorite to win the award again alongside Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone after his all out assault on the record books last season. For those suffering from amnesia or were under a rock last football season, all L.T. did last season was set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (31) and total points scored (186) to go along with his 1815 rushing yards and 508 receiving yards. At 6-1, Tom Brady is next in line which isn’t surprising considering all of the firepower the Pats added over the off-season. With the addition of Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker; it would be quite difficult for Brady’s numbers not to improve from last years 3529 yards and 24 touchdowns. There appears to be some decent value in Drew Bees at 10-1 considering he probably would have won the award last year if it wasn’t for L.T.’s record breaking season.

There is no reason to think the Saints will come back to earth this season and playing in a weak NFC, they should have as good a shot as any to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. At 15-1, Donovan McNabb could also be worth a look. Remember, many felt he was the MVP of the first half of the season before going down with a season ending injury. Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.
