Kim, McDaniel to meet in Publinx final

07/16/2010 - Greensboro, NC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Lion Kim and David McDaniel will meet in the final of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship after both players squeezed out a pair of 1-up victories on Friday.

Indeed, all six matches contested Friday on the Champions Course at Bryan Park were decided by 1-up scores. And half of them went extra holes.

In the semifinals, Kim rallied for a 1-up victory over Kevin Phelan after falling 2-down through 12 holes. A 21-year-old from Ann Arbor, Mich., Kim won the 13th with a par and then squared the match with an eagle at the par-five 15th.

He moved 1-up with a par at the 16th, then halved the last two holes with Phelan as both players closed with back-to-back birdies.

In the other semifinal, McDaniel rallied from a 3-down deficit after six holes against Josh Anderson. The 25-year-old from Tucson, Ariz., didn't take his first lead until a par at the 14th moved him 1-up.

McDaniel held on to that advantage over the last four holes to set up a meeting with Kim in Saturday's 36-hole match play final.

They will begin their first 18 holes at 7 a.m. (et).

All of the morning quarterfinal matches also ended in 1-up victories, with three of the four going extra holes.

Kim led for 16 of the 18 holes in his match against Chris Williams. After Williams squared the match with a par at the 16th, Kim took the lead for good with a par at the 17th. He earned a 1-up win after both players parred the 18th.

McDaniel trailed for much of the back nine against Harris English, but birdied the 17th to square the match. McDaniel won with a par on their 19th hole.

Phelan was never ahead in his match against Wesley Graham until he won the 21st hole for a 1-up victory. Phelan parred the 18th to square the match and send it to extra holes.

Anderson was behind for 10 of the first 17 holes against Darren Wallace. He squared the match with a birdie at the 18th, then earned his 1-up win with a par on the first extra hole.

Problem with Bears?

Chicago, IL - New Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and star linebacker Brian Urlacher shot down reports of a rift, saying they're simply not true.

"There's nothing between us," Cutler said Thursday, when he reported to training camp. "I just want to put that to rest. There never has been anything between us."

Urlacher added: "I never said what I was quoted as saying and that's it. I have a lot of respect for Jay. I think Jay knows that."
Former Bears receiver Bobby Wade caused a stir when he told Minneapolis radio station KFAN-AM that Urlacher used a profanity while questioning Cutler's manhood during a conversation in Las Vegas last weekend. Wade, who now plays for the Vikings, said Urlacher used a profane version of the word "wimp" during the interview that had to be edited out.

"I wouldn't go face-to-face with Brian, anyway," Cutler said. "No, that's never happened. I've hung out with Brian away from the facility numerous times and we've always gotten along."
Urlacher, noting he was limited by a groin injury, denied the reports in an interview with the Chicago Tribune and did it again when he reported to camp.
"I didn't practice this summer, so I don't know how I would fight the guy if I didn't practice," Urlacher said. "We have no problems. I'm excited about football starting. I'm excited to have him as our quarterback."
Why would Wade say that?
"I don't know," Urlacher said. "Maybe he's jealous because we have a good quarterback now."
Cutler said the first he heard of any friction was when he got a call from Urlacher to clear the air. Urlacher, however, said he had already taken several calls from teammates wondering if the reports were true when Cutler phoned.
"He called me and I said, What's up (expletive), what are you doing?'" a grinning Urlacher said, uttering the same word he allegedly used with Wade. "It's so dumb to me that this even got to this point, but it did and then here we are."

In some ways, Cutler is getting a second chance in Chicago, an opportunity to repair his reputation.
Smith said another quarterback - Michael Vick - deserves one, although he doesn't see it happening with the Bears, who lack an experienced backup. The former Atlanta Falcons star, who served a 23-month sentence for running a dogfighting ring, said Thursday he is getting close to signing with a pro football team.
"A second chance, like everyone in society who has paid their debt to society," Smith said. "He deserves a second chance. As far as we're concerned, we like this team that we have right now."
Particularly the new quarterback.
"Me and Brian have been on a good relationship since I've been here, and I expect it to continue that way," Cutler said.

The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons.  Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4.  Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1).  The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this.  No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
